Jehovah Nissi

Scripture:

Exodus 17:11-12,15

11 As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning. 12 When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset

15 Moses built an altar and called it The Lord is my Banner. 16 He said, “Because hands were lifted up against[a] the throne of the Lord,[b] the Lord will be at war against the Amalekites from generation to generation.”

Jehovah Nissi (The Lord Our Banner)

I love this portion of Exodus because it reminds us that we need others, that there is a victory ahead, but we need others to rally with us, to hold up our hands when we get weary from the battle.   As long as Moses held his hands up, the armies of Israel held the victory.  This highlights the need for intercessors in our lives, people who recognize that the victories we will have together will be the ones that we fight together.    People who stand in the gap, hold our arms up, lifting up the Holy Name of God over us, over our situation, plead the blood of Jesus over us, and cover us in prayer.  It is the Lord (Jehovah Nissi) that brings the victory, but this portion demonstrates that God wants us to unite in prayer, unite in speech, unite in vision, and then we will see the victory.

When you get to the other side of your battle, you too will declare that the LORD is Johovah Nissi, your VICTORY BANNER.

The application here is that we need a prayer life; we need to support those who are in the battle, who have become weary, or have a heavy load.   We need arm lifters (Intersessors) who recognize that our strength comes from the Lord, and they draw upon that truth and pray over the situation, pray for the LORDS provision, His power, His presence, His purpose and His VICTORY.

Lord, I pray for those who are struggling in the battle and have become weary, that you would strengthen them, that you would cause strength to come into the situation, that they would have endurance to see the victory that you will bring, break off the attack of the enemy, Lord be their Jehova Nissi, let us declare that today, the LORD, our BANNER, you are the victory in our lives, we thank you and praise you in the name of Jesus, Amen!
