Shoot Your Shot

by Pastor Ken

Scripture:
2 Kings 13:18-19
Then he said, “Take the arrows”; so he took them. And he said to the king of Israel, “Strike the ground”; so he struck three times, and stopped. And the man of God was angry with him, and said, “You should have struck five or six times; then you would have struck Syria till you had destroyed it! But now you will strike Syria only three times.”

Shoot Your Shot
I love this portion from today's scripture reading.  Elisha the prophet tells King Joash to take a bow and shoot his shot, then he tells him to strike the ground, notice he doesn't tell him how many times, only to strike the ground.

This whole scene shows you and I that God is not going to do the work for us, but He will give us the tools to accomplish it, how we handle them is important.  See the Prophet Elisha was angry because the King had wasted his opportunity for a great victory.    God has given each of us gifts, abilities, strengths that are meant to bring victory over the enemy in our lives, intended to bring Him glory, don't waste them or minimize them.

The God Shot today is:  "Shoot your Shot"  Whatever you do for the Lord do it 150%,  whatever He has supplied don't waste it.

Something deeper:
Every arrow the reaches its target must succumb to the pressure of the bow, no success, no victory, nothing good comes easy, it is the result of pressure, of pushing of growth, success is always the result of pressure, pushing you toward the target and keeping you from focusing on what is behind you.

Lord, I pray that we would always shoot our shot, put everything we have into what you have given us, where you are leading us, that we would not squander our opportunities, the things you have put into our hands, in Jesus' name, Amen!
